Heute sollte es über die ehemalige deutsch-deutsche Grenze gehen. Immer entlang der Saale. Heute und morgen ist der Fluss, der im Fichtelgebirge entspringt, unser stetiger Begleiter. Jedenfalls ist das doch logisch bei dem Namen des Weges, oder?
Im Zelt war es wieder enger zu zweit. Die Nacht war ruhig. Ulli verabschiedete sich bereits gegen 21:30 Uhr zur seligen Nachtruhe, ich schlief auch nicht viel später ein.
Heut morgen war ich 7:30 Uhr startklar. Alles gepackt und Zelt eingerollt. Da Ulli noch schauen musste, wo alles hinkommt und er noch sein Portmonee suchte, fuhren wir um 8 Uhr zur Gaststätte des Zeltplatzes. Das große Frühstück mit selbstegeräuchtertem Schinken war eine ordentliche Grundlage. Kurz vor 9 konnte es losgehen.
Und es ging gleich gut zur Sache. 3 Kilometer, nur über 11 % und in Spitzen 18 %. Ulli fuhr wieder los wie angestochen. Bis er abstieg und schob. Wir trafen uns am Passschild. Die Waldsteinstraße auf 783 m Höhe. Von da ging es wellig bis nach Schwarzenbach an der Saale und dem offiziellen Beginn des Radweges der nächsten Tage. Und er begann recht schön. Bis Hof ging es weitestgehend entlang des Flusses. Über Schotterwege und Asphalt in Wellen. Zum Teil auch hier wieder Rampen, die brannten.

Schwarzenbach war nett!
An der Fattigsmühle machten wir Mittag mit unseren geschmierten Broten und einem alkoholfreien Weizen. Ulli legte erst jetzt seine langärmelige Jacke ab. Keine Ahnung, wie er den Hitzestau überlebte.

Und eincremen. Unerwartet sonnig wars.
Ab hier wurde die Strecke irrsinnig, blödsinnig. Ein offizieller Radweg, der so gut wie nie am Fluss verlief. Es ging immer wieder kurz herunter zur Saale und dann in steilen, 1 bis 3 Kilometer langen Stichstraßen auf die anliegenden Hügel. Vorbei ging es an der A9, Raststätte Frankenwald. Kurz danach waren wir in Thüringen, als wir in Rudolphstein einmal mehr die Saale querten. Wir wurden vom Straßenverlauf zermürbt. Teilweise 21 % Steigung, nie unter 10 %! Und wieder runter. Und wieder hoch. Und so weiter. Das Profil seht ihr unten.

Bei Blankenstein waren wir in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Rennsteig. Noch 21 Kilometer bis Seeburg. Ulli schob immer mal wieder. Ich konnte die Anstiege zwar wegdrücken, jedoch konnte ich meiner Kette nicht mehr vertrauen. Bei zu starkem Tritt trat ich immer wieder ins Leere. War die kleine Scheibe die letzten Tage noch gut zu fahren, so gibt sie jetzt auch den Geist auf. Nur noch 5bTage durchhalten, bitte! Das zermürbt extra und kostet immer wieder Kraft, um den Tritt wieder zu finden. Einmal war es mitten im Anstieg, als ich komplett ins Leere trat, sodass ich mich ausklinken musste und mir das ganze Rad umfiel. Es war furchtbar. Die Pedale und das Ritzel sind in meiner Wade verewigt. Ich musste jetzt auch mal schieben, losfahren am steilen Hang war unmöglich.
18 Kilometer vorm Ziel sagte mir Ulli, dass er bereits auf der letzten Rille fährt und kämpfen muss. Ich hoffte, dass nix dramatisches mehr kommt. Aber na klar, hinter Blankenstein bis Harra kam ein 3 Kilometer Anstieg mit bis zu 10 % Steigung. Das ginge ja noch, aber es handelte sich um Schotter. Den Lenker durfte man kaum bewegen, sonst fiel man hin. Das Hinterrad drehte durch. Ulli schob, ich wartete oben. Die Abfahrt war noch gefährlicher durch die Wegbeschaffenheit. Kurz zusammengefasst zum Saaleradweg bis hier: man sieht die Saale kaum, dafür tolle Wälder und Wege. Für Normalradfahrer ist das kaum zu machen. Wer denkt sich sowas aus?
Wir kamen erst 15:45 Uhr an und belohnten uns mit Eis und Cola. 85 Kilometer und 1300 hm, die es in sich hatten. Wir haben unser Zelt direkt am Bleilochstausee aufgebaut, bekannt für das „Sonne, Mond und Sterne“-Festival. Im See schwimmen waren wir natürlich auch noch.

Heut Abend essen wir in der Gaststätte vom Camping. Morgen kommen wir früh wahrscheinlich erstmal nicht weg. Bis um 11 soll es regnen. Schauen wir mal. Wir müssen aber bis Jena kommen, da übernachten wir bei Ullis Freunden.
