Grandes Alpes ist Abenteuer und Grenzerfahrung, ist der Kampf gegen die Natur, gegen den Berg, gegen sich selbst.
Am 15. Juli 2013 beginnt für zwei Radfahrer die Tour der Leiden. Der Leipziger Sportwissenschaftler Jörn Pregel und Regisseur Andreas Bucher nehmen die Herausforderung an und bezwingen die berühmte Route zwischen Thonon-les-Bains am Genfer See und Menton am Mittelmeer. Nirgendwo sonst führen die Alpen ihre wahre Größe so eindrucksvoll vor Augen, wie bei einer Reise über die spektakuläre französische Hochalpenstraße. Mit vollgepackten Rädern stellen sie sich 24 Alpenpässen, darunter die höchsten der gesamten Alpen, um das große Ziel zu erreichen – die Verleihung des Goldenen Grenzsteins.
Für Ruhm und Ehre gestartet, werden letztendlich jedoch andere Werte in den zwei Radfahrern wachsen.
Ein siebenköpfiges Kamerateam wird sie dabei begleiten und produziert während der Vorbereitungszeit und der elftägigen Tour in den französischen Alpen den Dokumentarfilm GRANDES ALPES, der sowohl die physische als auch mentale Belastung erzählt, der sich mit den Motiven und Zielen einer solchen Herausforderung beschäftigt und den Mythos der Route des Grandes Alpes belebt.
